45:11 What's the status quo? It's not exponentially doubling, it's not even linearly increasing, it's a flat straight linear line, replacing the old with the new in a timespan of a generation, because biological brains get wired in a certain way during growing up and school and then remain conditioned on processing the sensory input in a certain way (perspective on the world as informed by the stuff that was around while growing up). Technology doesn't have this limit, because with better tools, we enable ourselves to build better tools. What's the theoretical model to do that with a biological system, what suggests that it is even possible at all?

2:02:25 Researching new sources of energy or consuming less energy would be good. But true, I'm not doing it either.

1:53:49 Question is if the goals are aligned/compatible. There are just so much things going on, how can you not leave the more relevant ones for the less relevant ones? Still, staying connected in the larger community always makes sense, because it might eventually develop into something highly relevant, or people will join with which collaboration makes a lot of sense where it didn't necessarily before, so there are larger and larger pools of people, resources and capacities forming for certain topics, activities or interests. Wonder if those need to be organized by some type of tool system?

1:29:58 THANK GOD that companies and politics and neighbors and familiy are not continuing to go to war with each other, that atheists always behave in such a orderly, peaceful manner!

1:21:55 Sure, sure, I'm just running out of another 10 years, that's kind of the problem here.

1:10:26 The problem is, it can't scale to global if people can just walk away, which they will do for various reasons. Will the example be so convincing that nobody would want to leave? Hm, there's always a messed up, psychopathic individual who will ruin it for everybody else. Or think about non-conformists who are against it because that's what they do ;-)

1:07:50 The libre-free software community is doing it for decades, the NICs had some of it with their RFCs, the federated wiki is around for some time too, one could look at those.

1:07:17 Maybe there's no need for agreement. Ever heard of a "federation"? Or, let's say, a meritocracy? Those are models as suggested by digital/networking, which is why we're fans of computers, the Internet, and get things done with those tools, they're even governing!

1:06:45 Oh, yes, that makes sense, maybe a new approach needs to be developed first, which of course can take a long time because we don't know what it will be yet.

1:06:12 Oh, I know solutions to that, one is called "bootstrapping". With this methodology, one is forced to specify what is supposed to be done as a first step, and build tools and practices to achieve that goal, which will lead to the next one and next, hopefully on a higher level than the ones before.

1:05:16 That's something that might be interesting for me, too. And Frode Hegland eventually as well, who knows. You know, an NLS/ARC Journal. So where is this project, who works on it, when, where, how?

1:05:05 The barn rising and unlocking sessions with pretty personal stories are public, but the more practical discussions are not?

1:00:23 Hm, the complex, urgent world problems happen to be complex and urgent, so there might be not a lot of time do to something about it, if we didn't already pass the point of no return in terms of the systemic feedback loops. Furthermore, the slowness and listening, there are different ways to approach it, those conversations are one of them.

52:33 and following: Gene seems to suggest some hands-on activities (he might know what he's doing), but the point of those conversations was at first to find out the core values of the participants, which is indeed very time-costly, but who knows to what extend it turns out to be valuable/important/necessary. It's not wrong to do it that way, very advisable even, but it's also interesting how Gene, in five minutes, uncovered some fundamental core values or assumptions or hopes or goals in the others. OK, they didn't have the chance yet to present their story and experiences.

44:58 Humans as biological systems and computers as mechanical/electrical systems are totally, fundamentally different. They don't follow the same rules and laws. Are those the views of a technologist?
