Global communication means that the physical boundaries of old media were overcome, and with the boundaries that make it expensive/inefficient for local, granular communication (as old media was a historical technological phenomenon related to the physicality in contrast to the new immateriality), so of course people get better ways to care about things in their local environment, to which they have a more direct relationship as they themselves remain physical beings. On the other hand, the opportunity of international flying counters that a little bit by making the physical humans appear globally in many places (not possible to the extreme, but somewhat), so one can indeed develop glocal relationships. My take/interpretation for now.
